A 100% selftaught painter living in Flanders, Belgium. Painting and drawing since 1976. Exhibitions since 1978.
J.P. Deloore is a 77 years old self-taught artist living in Flanders, the northern part of Belgium, in the hilly region called "Flemish Ardennes". In his youth he lived in the historical town of Audenarde, and drew people, animals and vehicles in his schoolbooks.
Posters of Breughel, Van Dijck and the French impressionists as well as Van Gogh inspired the young Deloore to take the path of painting.
Initially he painted landscapes of his region and held his first exhibition in Malpertuis gallery in Kwaremont.
Following this, many exhibitions were held in Belgian towns such as Bruges, Ghent and Roulers.
In 1981 Deloore built a new studio in his garden and started living in the tradition of the old Flemish painters.
Since then his subjects changed to landscapes and picturesque corners of the more sunny southern European countries and regions such as the Provence, Tuscany, Spanish and Greek isles, etc..
Sometimes these works are close to the reality, whilst at other times they are fantasized.
In these paintings Deloore uses soft, pastel-like oil colours, in a poetic way. He is interested in the way the different objects catch the light, as if they would like to tell you about their happiness and joy of living.
In 2002 JP Deloore switches to a totally new way of painting. After a long survey through the world of modern art in musea and galleries he gets interested in aspects of painting he hardly explored until now, as surface division, structure and color harmonies. He now puts the emphasis on the directly communicating power of matter and color.
